Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age is an RPG (Role Playing Game) that is set in a fantasy land populated by all the usual suspects; Elves, Dwarves and Mages all make an appearance, as do Orc-like creatures named ’Darkspawn’. You are, of course, the hero of the story, sent on a quest to destroy the evil Archdemon who is threatening to destroy the world. I have to say that I did get rather addicted to this game when I was looking for Locum vet jobs.

Looking at the game, you would not say that the graphics are amazing. They are very good, yes, but after Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4, they really don’t compare. However, this does not detract too much from what is a very solid game.

It all sounds like it has been done before, and indeed it has There is levelling up through experience gained in battles and a small pick of classes such as Rogue, and Warrior. There are a handful of techniques to learn and spells, which help your character become more powerful. Despite the fact that many of the aspects of the gameplay have been done before, it is still well presented and easy to get to grips with, making it enjoyable.

What makes Dragon Age a success, and separates it from the other RPGs is the story. Each race and class combination offers a different beginning and end to the story and what you do throughout can change how people react to you or how the story pans out. The relationships you maintain with your allies are also important to the story and provide for some great interaction. The script is also well written.

Dragon Age isn’t the best game out there, but it is definitely worth checking out.
