I have great respect for the creators for the WoW or Guild Wars or Eve online, however I noticed including me, people get lost into these MMO’s so deep that they begin to believe that it is their real life rather than the lives they lead a school or college. I started to play WoW last month, the addiction for such games are so high, just to level up untill you afford a steed of your own or whatever it maybe, there is always motivation to keep you going.
However I do feel that people should reduce the time they spend on the these games and rather spend that time mixing around with their friends or meeting new people. Many teenage kids who find it hard to fit into their social circles tend to live their real lives in the form of avatars that you can create in the MMO’s. These are depictions of what they’d wish to be or how they’d like their life to be instead of they ones they actually lead. I have nothing against these games but if you do have friends who lead their lives in this way, you should take responsibility in helping them realise that these games are nothing but virtual worlds. They don’t exist. We’ll I didn’t fall so deep into it but i know many friends of mine who began to play these games when they 16 or 17 years old and are still playing at the age 23, still lost in there.
These games are not just games, they can be used by psychologist for studies and research they weren’t aware they could do. Simply by seeing the character on chooses and weapons one buys in a game and rage the player plays in the game with tells you a lot about what’s going on inside them. A friend of mine would play this game day and night, he always talked about a knight in shining armour with a stainless steel like look who would rescue everyone and solve their problems, its pretty evident that a potato couch like him wanted to be that knight and do something exceptional. He seemed more happy in there, no one to judge him or describe him on how he looked, he felt safe.
We need to learn to take responsibility and help people realise that those a virtual worlds are not worth spending time on.
